Today’s New Normal
During the COVID-19 crisis and until restrictions are lifted, all therapy services will be provided by teletherapy. You will be provided with a link that will allow you to join the session at the appointed time.
Technology Requirements
Our scheduling system has its own telehealth platform. You will be given a link to each session, and you can attend form a laptop, phone, or tablet. It is a robust program that allows for most therapy models to be effectively utilized, including some basic forms of treatment. It is also secure and meet HIPPA standards to protect your privacy.
Computer System Requirements
System requirements may vary depending on the services that are being provided. At a minimum, you need a system with a camera, speakers, and a microphone. Most modern equipment meets these standards. However you may want to have headphones/ear buds with their own mic for an enhanced experience.
If you are planning on attending on a computer, simply clicking the link will open up a new browser tab with the telehealth session. If you will be attending with a mobile device (smartphone or tablet), you will be prompted to download an app, Telehealth by SimplePractice (click this link for tutorials on telehealth)
Very important, is that you have a solid internet connection for our session.
How You Can Start Preparing For Your Session
- Plan ahead for your session by making sure your equipment (camera, microphone and speakers/hearing devices) is working properly, and your internet connection is solid (and if applicable, by downloading the app).
- Position yourself in a private location where you can speak freely.
- Protect your time and make it as free from any distractions as possible. Make plans for children and pets so that you can be focused in your session.
- Consider this time as an hour you can devote solely toward yourself (or your relationship/family) for progress toward your goals. Treat the time as though were coming to the therapy office.
- You and a partner/family member can each attend the session, even from different locations, as long as you both have the link.
Oops! What To Do If Your Session Is Interrupted?
As great as technology can be, it is not without its downsides. One downside is that it does not always function correctly. I recommend closing programs on your computer or apps on your mobile device that are not needed. This will allow more of your devices working memory to be used on keeping your computer stable. I also recommend turning the wifi capabilities of other computers and devices off. These days many of our appliances and devices connect to our wifi. Those devices eat up bandwidth and can cause problems for the computers we are using in our session.
In the event that a session loses connection, you need only to attempt to enter the meeting room the same as you do initially. If it is evident that the platforms we are trying to use are not going to work, then we will switch to the phone for the remainder of the session unless other arrangements are made. I will attempt to call you back.
