Biography

Meet Sterling Downer, a compassionate and dedicated therapist who specializes in Internal Family Systems (IFS) Therapy and Emotionally Focused Therapy (EFT). A transformative personal experience propelled Sterling into his therapeutic journey, making him a living testimony of the profound influence that relationships can exert on our lives, for better or for worse.

Through personal experience and countless interactions as a therapist, Sterling has come to an understanding that our interactions with people matter deeply and the way we treat others matters. The way we treat ourselves matters. This conscious realization intrinsically motivates him to aid his clients in fostering healthier relationships with others and, perhaps more importantly, with themselves.

In his practice, Sterling skillfully incorporates elements of IFS, a model that promotes internal balance and harmony, and EFT, predominantly when working with couples, to encourage clients to breakdown walls and explore vulnerable aspects of themselves. He embraces a non-judgmental, empathetic approach, creating an accepting space where clients feel comfortable being authentically themselves. He also provides space and encouragement during exploration to find one’s authentic self; opening doors that were closed a long time ago and then forgetting they were closed.

Sterling’s professional practice fundamentally rests on respect and empathy. He fervently believes in the power of acceptance and love to heal the wounds of shame and judgment. This conviction is not just a personal philosophy; it represents countless feedback from clients who’ve experienced transformative self-love under Sterling’s guidance.

Sterling’s clients can expect to be treated with warmth and openness, and safely explore their feelings, beliefs, and behaviors under his competent care. Sterling is more than just a therapist – he’s an individual who’s unearthed the healing potential of relationships and commitment to helping others do the same. He believes the most rewarding part of being a therapist is witnessing someone provide love and acceptance to parts of themselves that have only known shame and judgment. This experience will be an essential part of your therapeutic journey.

His expertise, authentic experiences, and gentle methods embody his unique approach to therapy. With Sterling, therapy becomes more than just a process, but rather, a journey to self-discovery and acceptance.
